(After Hafiz)

The dust of my flesh is to my soul a veil
A joy I’ll feel as I uplift this veil

What have you sung sweet song to deserve such cage
To Rezvan fly north, your native home’s his vale

Straining to see wherefrom I sail or why
There’s pain longing for reason dimmed by a veil

You wish to travel the earth beyond this earth?
Nailed to a tomb your screaming won’t avail

Don’t stare. The colours of my flickering veil
Hide fires. You don’t want the burning behind this veil

Hafiz has lived now breathe his life from him
With you I won’t be heard beyond our veil
